Famed for its beautiful beaches, family activities and delicious seafood, the Costa Daurada region in Catalonia is also an ideal place for a golfing weekend away. The region has a total of 12 high quality and affordable golf courses and 'pitch and putts', including The Lumine, which has recently reopened its Beach Club and The Bonmont, designed by noted architect Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Autumn temperatures in the three towns of Cambrils, Salou and Vila-seca, la Pineda still reach highs of 25°C, which makes it the perfect time to visit. With the summer crowds gone, guests will be able to enjoy quiet courses and beaches, whilst still receiving a warm welcome and getting the chance to taste the delicious seafood and tapas at the many autumn food festivals in the towns of Cambrils, Salou and Vila-seca, la Pineda.

There are also bargain flights to be snapped up with Ryanair and Jet2 to Reus airport, just a 15 minute drive to the coast.

Club De Bonmont (www.bonmont.es)

Located south of Cambrils between the mountains and the sea, the Club de Bonmont is the ideal location to soak up the autumn sunshine. Founded in 1990, the course was designed within a spectacular Mediterranean setting by the world famous Robert Trent Jones Jr. The heart of Bonmont is the magnificent 18-hole / 72 par golf course that overlooks the coastline. While in Cambrils, guests should head to the port to watch the fishermen's boats return to shore each day in the afternoon with their latest haul. Green fees for the 18-hole course start at £45, while guests can also stay in one of the on-site Jardin del Golf apartments, which can accommodate four or six people.

One night in a two bedroom apartment at the Club De Bonmont is available from £180 including use of the swimming pool, terrace and air-con. (www.bonmont.es)

The Lumine Golf & Beach Club (www.lumine.com)

Just a stone's throw away from the wonderful beaches at Vila-seca, La Pineda, The Lumine is one of the finest golf courses in the Costa Daurada, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean. The Beach Club has recently been renovated ahead of the summer season, offering a relaxing pool area and a tranquil spot to enjoy delicious food at the Solemare Restaurant after a round.

The 36-hole course was built around a natural bird sanctuary and offers a true test of golfing abilities. There are three courses within the resort, Lumine Hills, Lakes and Ruins, where Roman remains dating from the second century BC were discovered during the construction of the course. Golfers could stay at the nearby five-star Gran Palas Hotel in La Pineda and visitors shouldn't miss the chance to walk along the Platja de la Pineda.

A double room at the Gran Palas Hotel is available from £105 for two people with breakfast. (www.granpalashotel.com)

Club de Golf Costa Daurada (www.golfcostadoradatarragona.com)

Found within a valley of olive trees, pine willows and palm trees to the north of Vila-seca, the Club de Golf Costa Dorada is the first club in the region and was founded in 1983. With a course that fits around the natural environment, it's always a challenging game. The club is a short drive north from the Roman city of Tarragona and includes an 18-hole / 72 par golf course (green fees start from £50), as well as a country club that includes a restaurant, two swimming pools and golf shop.

Guests could stay at the nearby adults-only Hotel Magnolia in the picturesque town of Salou. Salou offers over nine km of coastline, with nine beaches ideal for visitors to explore, as well as an array of watersport activities.

A double room at the Magnolia Hotel in Salou starts at £57 for two people with breakfast. (www.magnoliahotelsalou.com)

Aigüesverds Golf Club (www.golfreusaiguesverds.com)

Located just outside of Reus, the Aigüesverds Golf Club is the second oldest golf club in the region and offers a wonderful countryside backdrop for players to enjoy. The course can provide tricky holes for guests, especially the island green on the 17th hole.

As well as the 18-hole course (green fees from £42), there is also a small pitch and putt with four holes ranging between 60-80m for those who want to practice their short game. Guests could stay at the nearby Palas Raval De La Mar Hotel, located in Vila-Seca, La Pineda.
