Sweden, 3 June: A night on a private island, deep in the Swedish forest, is just one of the exciting new experiences being offered this summer by Simply Sweden.
The specialist tour operator to Sweden and Norway has launched three new summer holidays to Scandinavia on its new dynamic website. The inspiring itineraries include a driving tour of the remote Lofoten Islands, a self-catering holiday on the shores of a Norwegian fjord, and a unique glimpse of urban and rural life in a two-centre break to Stockholm and the Swedish wilderness.
These summer breaks are just a few of the new holidays that will be rolled out for 2015/16, following the most recent research trip by Simply Sweden. The team travels extensively across the region to find authentic holidays that offer a genuine insight into the Scandinavian landscape, nature and way of life.
Stockholm & Escape mixes the cosmopolitan streets of Sweden's capital with a peaceful retreat on a private island deep in the countryside. After a couple of days exploring Stockholm – taking in Gamla Stan, the Vasa Museum and even a cruise around the city's archipelago – guests head by train to rural Ockelbo. There they spend a night at Stilleben, a stylish B&B set across a renovated village hall and blacksmith's cottage in Åmot, exclusive to Simply Sweden, where wildlife safaris, cycling and canoeing can be laid on. Next is the highlight of the trip, a night in a traditional red cabin on a secluded private island (pictured above right), whiling away the day relaxing on the porch, swimming in the lake and cooking dishes from local organic produce.
From £930 per person, based on two sharing, including return flights to Stockholm, transfers, two nights' B&B in Rex Hotel and a night's full board at both Stilleben and the Kabin. Available until October.
Lofoten Fly-Drive is a new journey under the Midnight Sun to explore the history, culture and nature of this remote Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Circle. The 10-night trip weaves its way from the coastal city of Narvik to Svolvaer on the Lofotens, passing through the southern islands, in the shadow of mighty mountains, skirting the banks of still, deep fjords. Along the way, there's the chance to stay in a rorbuer – a traditional fisherman's cabin – at Nusfjord, one of the best-preserved fishing communities in the archipelago. Inspiring excursions on offer include boat safaris to spot sea eagles, mountain hikes and sea kayaking.
From £1,725 per person, based on two sharing, including return flights to Harstad Evenes via Oslo, car rental, 10 nights' B&B and Hurtigruten cruise. Available until mid-September.
The sun never sets in summer on Simply Sweden's latest self-catering break, Malangen Fjord, deep in the Arctic Circle. This seven-night escapade under the Midnight Sun is filled with nature-based activities, from fishing for halibut to mountain biking, as well as the more relaxing diversions of the sauna and hot tub. Set at the water's edge, guests stay in comfortable, well-equipped three-bedroom cabins, with balconies and terraces offering spectacular views of the fjord.
From £895 per person, based on four sharing, including return flights to Tromsø via Oslo, car rental, and seven nights' self-catering.
