Exciting news from the Polish National Tourist Office in London about the most prestigious travel award of the year!
The travel giant Lonely Planet made an announcement last night which has been keenly anticipated by the travel community around the world – what are the best places to visit in 2016.
Amongst the 10 countries (of which two are located in Europe) the Lonely Planet award for the first time went to Poland, which was nominated for the "Best in Travel 2016" by the panel of experts selecting the most exciting destinations for holiday makers.
Poland won the prestigious prize in recognition of its travel and tourism potential based on such widely recognized attractions as the city of Wroclaw, which is gearing up for the celebration of the European Capital of Culture 2016. Krakow is currently promoted as the meeting point for World Youth Day next July and for its Wieliczka Salt Mines. Other places of distinction include Łódź, Szczecin, Gdańsk, Masuria Lakes, golf courses in West Pomerania and the Białowieża National Park. As a trending attraction the Polish music festivals and the heavy-metal scene are also mentioned.
The special Lonely Planet prize awarded to Poland will be presented during a ceremony held in London's Covent Garden on November 1, 2015. On behalf of the President of the Polish Tourist Organisation the prize will be received by Ms Magdalena Krucz, Deputy Director, and Mr Bogusław Becla, the Acting Director of the Polish National Tourist Office in London.
