A Man-Goes Missing

Tourism Whitsundays

As the Big Mango went missing from Bowen at the start of last week, the online world was busy trying to solve the puzzle. Did you know that the hashtag #bigmango was trending in the last week with over 1.3 million impressions across Australia, the US and even Estonia? The popularity of #mango went up by over 34 per cent in the last week!

We’ve all enjoyed a bit of fun and laughter with the mango puns last week but did you know that #pristinebeaches, #freshseafood and #coralreef are also quite popular? That’s because there is more to Bowen than the Big Mango!

Bowen boasts beautiful beaches and secluded bays, fresh, local seafood and numerous walking tracks. Snorkel the colourful fringing reefs just off the beach, stroll over the Sunday morning markets at Queens Beach or drop in a line at the jetty on Santa Barbara Parade. Picnic at Mullers Lagoon, the picturesque botanical gardens and wetlands in the centre of town before you go on to explore Bowen’s murals. The murals take you back in time as they paint the picture of Bowen’s diverse history from early settlement to present day. Take in a 360 degree view of Bowen, the Coral Sea and surrounding region at Flagstaff Hill before you head to one of the country pubs to enjoy a hearty meal.

Bowen is the perfect escape from the hussle and bussle of our everyday lives or to reunite with family. Take your bikes and ride along the foreshore and at the end of the day, enjoy fresh local seafood on the beach while you watch the sun set over the Coral Sea. See the eyes of your little ones light up when they watch turtles nesting at the beach during the turtle nesting season.

And after all, did you know that Bowen is the largest winter vegetable growing region in Australia? That means you can still enjoy your mango and prawn salad made from fresh local produce at the end of a great day!
