The very special relationship that exists between grandparents and grandchildren is a gift to be celebrated; and what better way to do this than to give grandparents a Christmas present of memories that can be remembered and cherished by them and their grandchildren throughout their lives?
With this in mind, Grand Breaks a new family-run travel business, specialising in one, two or three day breaks in the UK for grandparents and grandchildren is offering some very special Christmas presents: a range of gift vouchers to the value of 100, 125 and 150, that can be put towards one of the companys flexible range of magical UK family breaks (www.grandbreaks.com). The Grand Breaks Christmas 2008 Gift Vouchers are valid for breaks taken between 1 January 2009 and 31 May 2009, which includes the Easter and half-term holidays.
The 150 gift voucher includes another great Christmas present: a free copy of False Teeth and a Smoking Mermaid a book compiled by Grand Breaks founder and Managing Director Charles Grimaldi, in which more than 70 famous people including Dame Judy Dench, Sir Terry Wogan, Sir Michael Caine and Ringo Star reveal fascinating, often hilarious and always enduring memories of their grandparents. Indeed, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is also one of the contributors, with touching memories of his grandmother Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. For every book supplied free of charge, half the original retail price will be donated to two very appropriate charities: Age Concern and Railway Children.
Charles Grimaldi, who personally organises and runs the family holidays with his son Tim, is a former FTSE 100 Corporate Affairs Director with a personal interest in inter-generational family holidays. The inspiration for Grand Breaks was his great-grandfather Sir Henry Thornhill, who wrote the worlds largest known collection of beautifully illustrated letters to his grand-daughter, Charles mother, and his other grandchildren, in an unique expression of a grandparents love to his grandchildren. Indeed, the collection of letters sparked considerable interest in the media including being featured on BBC Televisions Blue Peter.
Discovered lying forgotten in the dark recess of an old wardrobe, these enchanting letters depict wildlife, scenery, wacky inventions and imaginary animal characters as well as poignantly depicting imaginary outings that my great grandfather wanted to take with his grandchildren, but couldnt because they lived thousands of miles away, explained Charles. So I decided to make my great grandfathers dream a reality, by creating the sort of outings and breaks that he wanted to take so much with his grandchildren, but rarely could.
Both Charles and Tim recognised that many grandparents would like to take their grandchildren away for a short holiday together, but were often deterred by the daunting task of deciding where to go, where to stay and importantly, what to do. Grand Breaks, therefore, aims to remove the angst, having identified activities and attractions that can be enjoyed equally by both generations. These range from cycling in Ashdown Forest in East Sussex and kayaking on the Beaulieu River in Hampshire, to a steam train journey on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex; and having fun at Cadbury World and Warwick Castle in the Midlands, as well as attractions such as the Science Museum and Madame Tussauds in London, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, and the stunning Tennis Museum at the famous All England Tennis Club in Wimbledon.
After 18 months of research and planning, we have created a range of packaged breaks for grandparents and grandchildren to simply enjoy equally together, said Charles. Our research indicated that we needed to offer several types of break for different interests and fitness levels etc, so there are Classic, Active, Discovery and Bespoke Grand Breaks in Warwickshire, Hampshire, London, Surrey and Sussex, with more destinations planned. The carefully selected hotels and attractions are welcoming and fun for all ages. Grand Breaks books and takes care of everything whether its a specially tailored bespoke break or one of the themed packages so that grandparents and their grandchildren can just enjoy having a great time together and create a gift of memories that will last for lifetimes.
Given this vision, we have created the Grand Breaks Gift Vouchers to enable families to give a very special present a gift of memories this Christmas.
