A Big Welcome into Malaysian Homes After Ramadhan

Tourism Malaysia

A month-long open house policy follows the completion of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan, in Malaysia.

During Ramadhan, which began on October 27 this year, Muslims fast for the daylight hours. In the evenings they eat small meals and visit with friends and family. Ramadhan gives Muslims time for forgiveness, worship, charity and contemplation, a time to strengthen family and community ties. During Ramadan, Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives.

The solemn time of Ramadhan comes to an end in a vibrant and joyous two day festival known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri. A major holiday on the Muslim calender, this festival is a time for new beginnings. Homes are redecorated and people show off their new clothes.

A month long open house policy begins in Malaysia, allowing visitors a fabulous insight into the Malaysian way of life. Locals and visitors alike are welcomed to Malaysian homes to enjoy home-prepared foods and a generous dose of Malaysian hospitality. His Majesty the King of Malaysia and Muslim government leaders also hold open houses for the public at their official residences and all are welcome.
