The cowboys are coming!
The City of Amarillo and the Amarillo Civic Center again will host the Working Ranch Cowboys Association World Championship Ranch Rodeo. This is the 8th annual championship. Sixteen teams are expected from across the western United States and Canada in Amarillo November 13-16 to vie for the title of World Champion. These cowboys and cowgirls are the real deal.
They are on their way from California to Nebraska, Wyoming to Texas, with a few from Canada thrown in for good measure. They dont play football 8 months out of the year. They make their living from the back of a horse, completing ranch duties regardless of weather 365 days a year.
They will compete in events modeled after ranch activities- bronc riding, team penning, team branding, and the always popular wild cow milking. In many cases, these modern activities have not changed much in the past century. The daily performance always wraps up with the unpredictable wild horse race. The weekend of activities kicks off with an invitational Cowboy Art Show & Sale on Wednesday November 12th. In addition to the daily rodeo performance, the schedule includes a world class Collectibles & Trade Show, Ranch Horse Competition, Junior Ranch Rodeo, Cowboy Poetry and Music and Horse Clinics- entertainment for young and old alike. This is the second year for a Sunday afternoon performance as the competitions grand finale. Also back as part of the activities, The American Quarter Horse Association, through its Americas Horse magazine, will present the Best Remuda award. This award is presented each year to the ranch in the United States that has shown exceptional merit in its remuda program. A remuda is the herd of working horses a ranchs cowboys rely on to complete their daily assignments.
