There's magic in the air as daylight savings arrives in Sydney, kicking off the season of solid gold days filled with every experience under the sun. From events we've waited all year for to surprising new ways to play, Sydney makes every day extraordinary – throughout spring, summer and well into 2023. Here, a few highlights to get you started…
Become part of the harbour's sparkle
Take your place in the living harbour postcard on a sailing adventure with EastSail or My Sydney Boat, and enjoy long, sunny days exploring secret beaches and islands. Rolling into twilight, bask in the city's glittering skyline as the harbour sets the scene for world-class events including Carmen on Cockatoo Island, the Sydney Opera House's rolling roster of landmark shows and weekly fireworks. And let the harbour's serene spirit fill you with inspiration as the dawn light dances across its surface around your kayak.
Reconnect with nature at sunrise
Feel as bright and inspired as the brand-new day with a quintessentially Sydney dawn experience. Wake up with the animals at Taronga Roar & Snore, salute the sun in a Yoga By the Sea class, or ease into the day with a calming standup paddle-boarding tour. Back on land, get your heart rate pumping on the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk, enjoying the cafes along the way. Or, head inland to Lake Parramatta, Western Sydney Parklands or Ku-Ring-Gai National Park for a gentle meander in lush bushland, all just minutes from the city.
Drift off to the sounds of the sea
Sun, surf and sunshine make every beach holiday worthwhile – but it's the laidback luxury and world-class events that make a Sydney staycation unforgettable. Kick back and revitalise in a splendid floating villa surrounded by the raw-but-refined beauty of Palm Beach, or at Jonah's Whale Beach, after a day at the Narrabeen Lakes Festival. Or, soak up views of Sydney's sparkling harbour from the luxury of your suite at Pier One Sydney Harbour, Four Seasons Hotel, Sebel Quay West, or Ovolo Woolloomooloo.
Be revitalised by a new rush
These sparkling days awaken our spirit of adventure. Feel on top of the world as you climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge with an Aboriginal storyteller, take a scenic seaplane flight and learn to surf in Bondi or Manly – and as you breathe in the sweeping views between them as you challenge yourself on Sydney's most epic trail. Head south of the city to Cronulla for more incredible surfing plus access to the jaw-dropping Coast Track through the Royal National Park, where you can continue your adventures by mountain-bike or canoe.
Make the most of the long, warm nights
The energy's electric as a balmy breeze weaves its spell across the city. Assemble the crew for brews with a view at CIRQ, RAFI, Smoke, Aster, or Opera Bar, or clink glasses in the YCK Laneways' secret speakeasies. Then make the most of Sydney's jam-packed calendar of sporting events, musicals and festivals, which features everything from Aqua Rugby to Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. Or, head to the Inner West for a live music fix at the Enmore Theatre, where highlights include Ty Dolla $ign, Jacob Collier and more. Afterwards, debrief over a late-night feast in Darling Quarter, Barangaroo or Chinatown, where the night still feels young well into the early hours.
Let curiosity lead you astray
Anything feels possible when the sun's working overtime. With so many incredible holiday hubs within easy reach of the city, why not savour a scenic daytrip? Journey south and follow the Grand Pacific Drive across the Sea Cliff Bridge for a memorable day on the South Coast; beach hop along the Central Coast, or, head west to the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains for a day of wild walks, grand gardens, eclectic festivals, intriguing caves and cable-car adventures.
Revive your spirit in soothing waters
With more than 100 beaches between Cronulla and Palm Beach, Sydney has a saltwater playground for every water baby. Strap on your snorkel and immerse yourself in the marine wonderland of the Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve, or get your wildlife fix on dry land at Cape Solander, where humpback whales migrate alongside soaring sandstone escarpments. And when it's time to just kick back and rejuvenate, make it your mission to visit each of the city's 35 stunning ocean pools, where you can float yourself to serenity and feel renewed by the big blue.
Plate up new memories
These shiny days are as moreish as the zingy tropical flavours they bring, and memorable foodie experiences are served on a platter across the city. Savour fresh seafood at the Sydney Fish Market; enjoy an extra-long lunch at The Collaroy; dine alfresco at the Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf, and let your tastebuds guide you to South Eveleigh, where there's a satisfying mix of street food, cocktails and modern Australian fare to tuck into.
