February 7 2014 marked the 5th anniversary of Australia's worst bushfires, Black Saturday which destroyed the tourism village of Marysville in Victoria. Over 80% of the village was destroyed and many lives lost. The Marysville community, through sheer resilience and determination has since rebuilt homes, businesses and the community and is once again providing a wonderful tourism experience for visitors to the region.
It will be a time for all Victorians to stop and reflect on the lives lost and homes and businesses destroyed, and also pay tribute to the heroic actions of the firefighters and emergency service workers who were present during the fires and on the days and months following the tragic event.
For the Marysville and surrounds communities, it is also a time to acknowledge and celebrate what has been achieved over the past five years. Through hard work, commitment and unwavering passion, residents and supporters have worked together to restore the region to its former glory and create a new chapter in its 150 year history.
The community extends a warm welcome to invite people back to the region to experience the delights of Marysville and surrounds.
