Renowned for its commitment to supporting the arts and providing guests and locals a rich and diverse art programme, Dorchester Collection’s contemporary Mayfair hotel, 45 Park Lane, has announced an exceptional end to the calendar year. From 7 December to 11 January 2014, 45 Park Lane will host a Christmas collection of prints by iconic British Pop Artist, Sir Peter Blake.
Known for his love affair with icons and popular culture, the collection will showcase Sir Peter Blake’s signature vibrancy through a selection of pieces from his 2013 works, many of which have not previously been presented to the public before. Displayed in the public areas of the hotel including Bar 45 and The Library, all works will be on sale and will include ‘Wooden Puzzle Series’, ‘Found Art’, ‘Pearl Buttons’, and ‘The Aquarium’.
This rare exhibition from Sir Peter Blake will complete an exciting year of art initiatives hosted at 45 Park Lane, which has included a collaboration with sculptress and daughter of the late artist Lucian Freud, Jane McAdam Freud; an exhibition of Wells Art Contemporary winner Frances Borden in May, ‘Staying Alive’ by Christian Furr and Chris Bracey in July and August, an exhibition of Richard Young ‘Classics’ in September, the ‘A Brush with Frieze’ celebration over Frieze Art Fair; and a partnership with Christie’s auction house, showcasing exclusive highlights from the Christie’s Picasso Ceramics online auction. Currently in November, 45 limited-edition pieces of poster artwork by retro-futuristic illustrator Steve Thomas are being presented at Bar 45, until 6 December.

45 Park Lane
Dorchester Collection’s second London hotel 45 Park Lane opened on 1st September 2011 just opposite The Dorchester with Wolfgang Puck’s first venture in Europe, CUT at 45 Park Lane. Throughout the intimate-sized hotel, luxurious and contemporary interiors by New York based designer, Thierry Despont, provide a club-like feel offering international guests a smart, central environment from which to enjoy London. Each of the spacious 45 rooms and suites offer views of Hyde Park, as does a spectacular Penthouse Suite with wrap around terrace offering panoramic views across London. A striking central staircase leads to a mezzanine featuring Bar 45, a resident’s Library, and high tech Media Room offering private dining.
About Sir Peter Blake
Godfather of British Pop Art Sir Peter Blake has been collaborating with CCA since 2003, producing spectacular original prints. His work crosses all generational divides, and inspires great respect from younger artists such as Damien Hirst, Gavin Turk, Pure Evil and Tracey Emin. Knighted in 2002, an honorary doctor of the Royal College of Art, and with his work represented in major collections throughout the world, Sir Peter Blake truly is a grandee ofBritish Art.
Sir Peter Blake's work reflects his fascination with all streams of popular culture, and the beauty to be found in everyday objects and surroundings. Many of his works feature found printed materials such as photographs, comic strips or advertising texts, combined with bold geometric patterns and the use of primary colours. The works perfectly capture the effervescent and optimistic ethos of the sixties, but are also strikingly fresh and contemporary. There is also a strain of sentimentality and nostalgia running throughout his work, with particular focus towards childhood innocence and reminiscence, as can be seen clearly in his recent Alphabet series. Blake is renowned for his connection with the music industry, having produced iconic album covers for the Beatles, Paul Weller, The Who, and Oasis.
