40cm Fresh Snow Now At Perisher Blue

Perisher

Who said the season was over? When temperatures begin to start reaching the mid twenties in Sydney and Brisbane, people tend to think the snow season is over, well they are wrong!

Its certainly been a season to remember in 2003 with snow falling consistently and at just the right time all winter long and it has not stopped yet. Last weekend was no exception.

Around 9pm on Saturday night the flakes began falling from the sky, becoming heavier into the night. It hasnt let up, with 30cm falling in Perisher Valley to 3pm Sunday and a further 10cm overnight. This morning is shaping up to be one of the best days of the season with light snow still falling in the resort and powder everywhere.

The snow has been a mixture of light, dry and dense snow topping up the already good base of 1 metre 58cm. The wind has been moderate at times at the top and in the Valley light, hovering around 17km/h from the West, so there are plenty of great stashes to be found.

The good news for skiers and boarders is that the snow should continue to fall through until Tuesday, then clearing on Wednesday according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Neil Thew, Perisher Blues Public Relations Manager said, This snow is a welcomed surprise. Mother Nature has been kind to us this winter, snow falls have been consistent and very timely. If the snowfalls continue the way they are we will have one the best September/October school holidays in recent memory.

Lifts at Perisher Blue Ski Resort will continue to move skiers and boarders up the slopes until October 12th. Perisher Blue is able to stay open longer than any other in Australia, due to the resorts higher elevation. All lifts and runs are well above the recognised natural snow line.

There is still accommodation at discounted rates around the Snowy Mountains. Perisher Blue Snow Holidays can help with package deals including accommodation, lift passes and ski hire. Give the friendly team a call on 1300 655 811 Theyll be happy to help!
