Since 2010 YHA (England and Wales) has made huge changes to its 160 properties and in the way it operates and looks. More than £34 million of investment has transformed how Youth Hostels look.
As well as the expected dorms and self-catering kitchens, YHAs now also boast private family rooms, en suites, restaurants and licensed bars. The bunk beds remain, but double, King and Queen-size beds have been introduced to many properties. You'll even find the rooms in some properties boasting luxury roll top baths. One youth Hostel (YHA Wilderhope) even has a four poster bed in its honeymoon suite!
No longer do you need to be a member to stay at a Youth Hostel (although you will benefit from even more discounts), they're also open all year round – making an ideal city centre base for a Christmas shopping or a winter wilderness to get away from it all. You can even hire out an entire property through YHA Exclusive Hire.
