3 Monkeys' Kids Club Involves Entire Families At Bali's Award-Winning Karma Kandara Resort

An innovative new kids' club concept - uniquely involving entire families - has been launched at Bali's multi-award winning Karma Kandara Resort and Spa.

The '3 Monkeys' initiative not only organises inspiring and stimulating activities and excursions for kids aged 2-11, it also encourages teenagers and families to join in.

"As our lives get busier and busier, we spend less time together as families," said Michael Luible, Managing Director of Karma Resorts. "We believe it's important to provide activities for families as well as groups of staff-supervised children, creating time for them to reconnect and have fun and adventures together."

Family activities include water sports, mountain biking, rafting, ceramic making and painting, traditional Balinese cultural and culinary workshops, beach sports and fishing and snorkeling excursions.

Kids also experience Balinese daily life and play first hand at local villages. At 'Jungle Room' workshops youngsters can make traditional Balinese kites, followed by an afternoon learning to fly them on the beach or learn how to become chefs for the day, creating dishes served to their parents for lunch or dinner.

Parents are encouraged to take part in sandcastle building and beach tug-of-war competitions or join lessons learning Balinese dance and traditional arts and crafts. Even spa pampering is designed for both mothers and daughters to share.

Children are awarded certificates for creativity, teamwork and various other accomplishments from the educational and great fun activities. They are also encouraged to make long lasting friendships through a pen-pal scheme.

The '3 Monkeys' is named after playful monkeys inhabiting the luxury hideaway and adopts the Japanese proverb 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' - reflecting Buddhist philosophy of right mind, speech and action.

"Monkeys form close-knit groups that can teach us a few things. They stay close to friends and family as they learn and play and we want to create a similar strong sense of community - not only among children, but also among families and our resort staff" Mr Luible added.

The initiative is launched at Karma Kandara, with families at nearby sister resort Karma Jimbaran also encouraged to take part.

"Parents can relax in the knowledge that their children are in the best of hands, having a truly fantastic time and doing what kids do best - having fun. But we have a feeling they'll be tempted to join in" said Mr Luible

Nestling on a clifftop overlooking the Indian Ocean, Karma Kandara was last year voted 'Best New Resort in Indonesia' and 'Indonesia's Best Development' in the 2009 CNBC Awards.

The spa resort on Bali's southernmost peninsula is linked by 'inclinator' to Nammos Private Beach Club, voted 'Best Beach Club in Bali'. Its signature restaurant di Mare is ranked by Tatler magazine among the best restaurants in Indonesia.

The member of the prestigious 'Leading Hotels of the World' network recently unveiled the fifth and final phase of 20 one, two and three bedroom luxury villas to be marketed, on sale from US$350,000-US$853,600.
