For the Year of Czech Music 2014, Prague City Tourism, the Czech capital's tourism office prepared a special web site dedicated exclusively to “everything music” related to Prague under the domain MusicinPrague.com.
In addition to a complete calendar of music events for 2014, visitors can also find a mini-encyclopedia of places and personalities presented in the form of an interactive music map of Prague. “The idea was to bring alive the city's music history and make it part of today's vistors' experience,” says Prague City Tourism's marketing director, Katerina Pavlitova. “Why not have a beer at the pub where Dvořák took Tchaikovsky when the latter visited, or see the house where Mozart partied with Lorenzo da Ponte.“
The map is a handy tool in planning self-guided itineraries, but also includes links to recordings, music vendors, venues and more. “Classical music is the first genre we are starting with, as Prague is so well-known for it, but we will be adding other genres as well. Prague has a lively and long-established jazz scene and you might be surprised to know that many a rock star had a special relationship with former President Václav Havel and thus Prague, from Frank Zappa to Lou Reed to the Rolling Stones”, said Pavlitova.
