Spring at Norton Priory: Easter Adventures, Phantoms Extended and Events for All Ages

Runcorn, Cheshire - April 2026

Spring has arrived at Norton Priory Museum & Gardens and with it comes a packed programme of Easter activities, family events and unique experiences set across 42 acres of woodland, gardens and historic ruins.

As the season of renewal begins, Norton Priory invites visitors to step outdoors, explore the landscape, and spend time together in one of Halton's most distinctive heritage settings.

Easter at Norton Priory: Trails, Treats and Traditions

This April, families can take part in a range of Easter activities designed to bring the site to life for all ages.

The much-loved Easter Bunny Hunt takes place on 3rd and 6th April, inviting visitors to explore the grounds in search of the elusive bunny. On 4th and 5th April, the Chocolate Easter Egg Hunt challenges participants to follow clues scattered across the site, with a sweet reward at the finish.

These events build on Norton Priory's long tradition as a place where people gather - now reimagined through playful, family-friendly experiences.

Phantoms at the Priory Extended for Easter

Following overwhelming demand and rave reviews, Phantoms at the Priory - the striking immersive installation bringing 900 years of history to life - has been extended throughout April and the Easter holidays.

Specially commissioned for Norton Priory Museum & Gardens, the installation transforms the historic site into a living landscape of “Echoes of the Past.” Visitors can encounter ethereal figures inspired by real characters from the Priory's history, including Canons, Knights and members of the influential Brooke family.

The phantoms are on the move too. While many appear within the museum galleries, others will emerge across the wider site - including outdoor spaces around the visitor centre and within the historic grounds - creating unexpected moments that extend the experience far beyond the indoor setting.

Created by the team behind York's hugely successful Ghosts in the Gardens, the installation blends art, history and atmosphere to deliver a hauntingly beautiful and highly shareable experience.

Part of Culture26, Halton's year of culture, Phantoms at the Priory has quickly become a must-visit event - offering a bold, atmospheric and unforgettable way to explore one of the region's most remarkable heritage sites this Easter.

Spring Events for Mind, Body and Creativity

Alongside Easter activities, Norton Priory's April programme offers a diverse mix of experiences for adults and families alike:

  • 11th April - Family Friendly Crafts: creative, hands-on activities including peg creatures and handprint painting
  • 12th April (9–10am) - Meditation at the Museum
  • 12th April (10am–12pm) - Mindful Watercolours
  • 18th April (7pm) - Haunted Book Club
  • 26th April (6:30pm) - Sound Bath with River Voices

These events reflect the spirit of spring - a time to slow down, reconnect and try something new.

More Than a Museum: A Full Day Out in Cheshire

Set across 42 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens, Norton Priory offers far more than a traditional museum visit.

Visitors can explore:

  • Medieval priory ruins
  • The Grade I listed undercroft
  • The Georgian Walled Garden
  • Two museum galleries
  • Woodland walks and outdoor spaces

With a café and shop (no ticket required), dog-friendly grounds and free entry for children, Norton Priory is an accessible and rewarding day out for families, couples and individuals alike.

Visitors are encouraged to allow 2-3 hours to explore - or longer to fully enjoy everything the site has to offer.

A Place That Comes Alive in Spring

As the gardens begin to bloom and the days grow longer, Norton Priory offers a setting where past and present meet - from ancient ruins to contemporary events, quiet moments to shared experiences.

Spring is not just a season here - it's part of a cycle that has unfolded on this site for over 900 years.
