The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka proudly introduces an extraordinary cultural offering that brings together centuries-old Hakata craftsmanship and the brand's unmistakable approach to luxury. At the heart of this launch is an exclusive, hotel-branded Hakata Magemono bento box—a traditional craft designated as an Intangible Cultural Property of Fukuoka Prefecture—reimagined as a contemporary keepsake for the modern connoisseur. Handcrafted by master artisans, this bespoke collection includes a pair of Rantai lacquered chopsticks and a Hakata-ori furoshiki adorned with The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka's signature mark. Each element reflects a deep respect for regional heritage while offering guests an elegant, meaningful way to commemorate their journey.
Guests are invited to go beyond observation and step into the role of artisan through the Hakata Magemono Experience, a rare, hands-on workshop guided by Tamaki Shibata, Fukuoka's sole certified Hakata Magemono craftsperson and the eighteenth-generation guardian of this 400-year-old tradition.
Following the workshop, participants are rewarded with an exquisite culinary experience curated by the chefs of Genjyu, the hotel's Japanese restaurant. Seasonal Kyushu ingredients—ranging from premium Wagyu beef to fresh local seafood—are artfully presented in the handcrafted bento box and paired with revered Yame tea, creating a seamless dialogue between craft and cuisine.
For families, couples, or solo travelers alike, this experience offers a rare opportunity to connect across generations through creativity, culture, and shared moments.
For guests seeking a deeper cultural immersion, The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka presents an exclusive Hakata Magemono Workshop Stay Package, combining the hands-on workshop with an elegant overnight stay for two. From crafting your own bento box to savoring seasonal Kyushu cuisine in the serene setting of Genjyu or in the privacy of your guestroom.
