AFL Origin returns exclusively to Perth
For the first time in 26 years, AFL Origin is set to return, with Perth/Boorloo confirmed as the exclusive host of the iconic interstate game in 2026. The match, scheduled for Saturday 14 February, will see WA's and Victoria's top AFL players clash at Optus Stadium. Designed as a blockbuster pre-season event, it will be the only Origin fixture scheduled for the year and is expected to draw thousands of fans to WA. Supported by Tourism WA, it's set to deliver a major economic boost.
Heyscape Denmark receives global recognition
Dreamy cabin offering Heyscape Denmark has been named in the world's top 30 hotels by National Geographic. Located at Raintree Farm in Western Australia's South West, Heyscape was a runner up in the 'remote escape' category and is one of two Australian inclusions in the Awards. It was lauded for its peaceful setting and spectacular natural surrounds. Meanwhile, Heyscape is taking bookings for the first of 12 new cabins on the Denmark property, due to open on 21 November 2025. The staged expansion is expected to be fully completed by March 2026, and includes eight single, three dual, and four family cabins, offering stunning ocean, karri forest or valley views.
New dates, same great Taste Great Southern
Taste Great Southern is set to return with new experiences from 5 to 8 March 2026. Taking place during Albany/Kinjarling's Bicentenary event series, the 2026 program will include new experiences like the Taste Market, featuring local wine producers, chef pop-ups, sommelier-hosted masterclasses and more. Meanwhile returning favourites will include the Denmark Wine Hop and exclusive seaside soiree, Tides of Taste at Maitraya Private Retreat. Held across Albany, Denmark and surrounding areas of Frankland River, Katanning, Mount Barker and Porongurup in WA's South West, the festival is supported by Tourism WA through the Regional Events Program. The full events program will be released in the coming months.
Two years to go: Men's Rugby World Cup 2027
October marks the two-year countdown to the Men's Rugby World Cup in 2027, with Perth preparing to host key matches in the prestigious global tournament. Perth will host seven matches, including the all-important opening match featuring the Wallabies, at the award-winning Perth Stadium. The rugby union event takes place from 1 October to 13 November 2027 and is the third largest sporting event in the world after the Summer Olympics and Men's FIFA World Cup. Supported by Tourism WA, the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 is set to be the largest sporting event ever held in Western Australia. It's expected to bring thousands of fans to the Dream State and forms part of WA's golden decade of rugby.

New Aboriginal tourism experience commences in the Kimberley
An immersive Aboriginal cultural experience is set to debut at El Questro in WA's Kimberley during the 2026 season, allowing guests to gain a greater understanding of one of the world's oldest continuous living cultures. The Munbula Cruise, delivered by the Ngarinyin Traditional Owners, is a relaxing, three-hour cruise along the spectacular Chamberlain River. Along the way, guests will hear Dreaming stories, listen to traditional songs, and discover more about the region's deeply significant plants, animals and landforms. The seasonal experience has also recently joined Tourism Australia's Discover Aboriginal Experiences collective. El Questro is located approximately 100km from Kununurra / Goonoonoorrang and is accessible by road and air.
2026 to mark a new era of the Berkeley River Lodge
Australia's most remote luxury lodge, Berkeley River Lodge, located in the Kimberley in WA's North West will relaunch on 1 May 2026 with new curated experiences for all-inclusive stays and refurbishments, including nature-inspired touches to interiors and furniture. Curated experiences include the Signature Kimberley Spa treatment with hot stone techniques and botanical oils; Morning Movement Sessions like yoga, pilates and breathwork sessions; and the Barefoot Barbecue, a relaxed twilight dining experience. Located on pristine Balanggarra Country, Berkeley River Lodge comprises 18 adults-only villas, each equipped with a king-size bed, open-air ensuite with rain shower and freestanding tub, air conditioning and luxury bathroom amenities.
New accommodation projects to boost WA tourism
Eco-lodges, glamping tents, treehouses and Aboriginal camp sites are just some of the incredible new accommodation projects that could soon be underway in WA as part of the innovative Unique Tourism Accommodation Proposal (UTAP) program. A total of 17 new accommodation projects have been announced under the initiative, with each project to receive up to $100,000 to support planning and development approvals. From glamping on Dirk Hartog island, to expanded offerings at Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge in the Kimberley to a 'tree stay' in the Perth Hills, the proposed projects are as varied and dynamic as WA itself. The program will help deliver new unique, culturally and environmentally sensitive accommodation across WA, which will offer memorable stays and even more ways to experience the otherworldly landscapes of the Dream State.
Oh Hey, Subiaco! Vibrant walking tour series sets off soon
Fresh off the launch of the Canning Bridge Art Tours, Oh Hey WA has announced its latest tours, inviting visitors to explore Perth's inner-city suburb of Subiaco, with the support of See Subiaco. The special tour series commences Friday 17 October and will run until May 2026, inviting visitors to discover more about its iconic high street, impressive street art and lively events calendar. Highlights of the series include the 'Walk to UnWined' tour, which leads visitors to the Unwined Subiaco food and wine festival; the 'Murals, Music and Markets' tours, which conclude at the Subi Night Markets and the 'Festive Sundowner' tours to be held across November and December. Founded in 2014 by Chief Perth Enthusiast Adie Chapman, Oh Hey WA hosts walking tours around Perth which encourage visitors to discover the culture, stories and history of Perth.
A dreamy sunset and seafood cruise is coming to Mandurah
Perth/ Boorloo's enviable summer is set to get even better with the announcement of Sea West's new 'Sunset and Seafood' Cruise. Taking guests on a leisurely cruise around Mandurah/ Mandjoogoordap, the 2.5 hour experience include a decadent five-course seafood feast expertly prepared on-board by a private chef. The tour offers a luxurious, yet relaxed way to experience WA's famous sunsets and seafood, while also discovering the stunning beaches and waterways of Mandurah. Meanwhile, renowned Executive Chef Tony Howell has revealed a new-look menu for Sea West's 'Luxe Island Seafood Cruise' at Rottnest Island / Wadjemup. Guests will take a culinary tour of WAs produce across seven-courses, with Shark Bay prawns, Abrolhos Island scallops and Cone Bay Barramundi key highlights. On both tours, guests enjoy matching wines from Howard Park Wines – an award-winning winery located in the Margaret River Region.
WA's largest lavender farm blooms in Yanchep
Lavender Estate has officially opened its gates in Perth/Boorloo's northern suburbs beside Yanchep National Park, enticing visitors to experience the wonders of the lavender flower. Encompassing a working lavender farm and distillery, licensed cafe offering picnic-style dining, shaded playground and lawn area, the sprawling estate offers a relaxed family day out. Those seeking a more in-depth understanding of the farm can book a Devonshire tea and distillery tour, which includes a freshly baked lavender scone with lavender tea, 25-minute farm talk and time to browse the gift shop. From December to February the fields are in full bloom, promising the perfect photo opportunity, especially when showcased alongside the estate's signature lavender ice creams.
Segway Tours WA expands tour highlights
Segway Tours WA has launched a new 2.5 tour taking in the inner-city sights of Perth/Boorloo. Visitors will join an experienced tour guide to experience the highlights of Kings Park and Botanic Garden, stop at the iconic Blue Boatshed, cruise beside the Swan River/ Derbarl Yerrigan and past the Old Swan Brewery and explore the Elizabeth Quay and Bell Tower precinct. Pilbara Dive and Tours has welcomed its new tour vessel Sailfish and expanded its marine and leisure tours in the spectacular Dampier Archipelago, within WA's Pilbara region. Bert's City Beach officially opens
The team behind Perth/Boorloo foodie hotspots The Rowing Pavilion and General Public Food Co has opened Bert's City Beach, a new full-service dining venue offering a laidback experience with views of the Indian Ocean. Open from breakfast to dinner, its main menu is a fresh mix of snack and share plates, larger solo meals, plus a curated selection of pizzas and tacos. Its name is a tribute to 'Bert's Shop', a former beach kiosk and surf hangout which served up ice creams and snacks to the surfing crowd during the 1950s and early 1960s. The modern revival retains the sense of community and spirit of the original shop, bolstered by the hallmarks of modern dining – seasonal local produce, sustainable practices and thoughtful design. City Beach is one of Perth's 19 metropolitan beaches, located around ten kilometres from the city centre.
Tigerfish cruises down the coast
Longstanding Cottesloe icon, The Cottesloe Beach Hotel is set to up the sizzle factor this summer with the opening of Tigerfish. Touted as a 'spirited bar and dining destination', this upscale modern establishment is poised to deliver bold Southeast Asian flavours and design. Its varied spaces will include a curved cocktail bar, light-filled dining room, cosy booths and perfectly positioned tables for two overlooking the Indian Ocean. Kailis Hospitality Group announces major Sorrento acquisition
The renowned Kailis Hospitality Group has acquired the entire hospitality precinct at luxury development ORA Sorrento, in Perth /Boorloo's northern coastal suburbs. This rare and premium $12m acquisition and development equates to 1,000sqm of beachfront hospitality real estate, offering spectacular views of Sorrento Beach and the Indian Ocean. The purchase rather than lease of the property heralds a new era of dining for Perth and is set to further elevate the coastal dining scene. The Group will develop a multi-venue hub of up to four distinctive yet complementary restaurant brands, designed by Rezen Studio. Team members from Gibney, Kailis' multi-award-winning seaside brasserie, will work on the project, which is expected to get underway in late 2026-early 2027.

Tim Winton's new book celebrates the wonders of Ningaloo
Beloved West Australian award-winning author Tim Winton has released a new children's picture book in collaboration with Perth-based artist Cindy Lane. Ningaloo: Australia's Wild Wonder takes a deep dive into the biodiverse ecosystems of Ningaloo/ Nyinggulu featuring hundreds of stunning hand-painted illustrations. From the region's UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef to its muddy mangroves, the book offers an educational and enthralling insight into these fragile environments. More than 50 species of animals and plants are included, and the book also acts as a visually inspiring call to action to preserve this region for generations to come. Ningaloo: Australia's Wild Wonder launched in early October, published by Fremantle Press.

Pemberton Avocado Festival
The inaugural Pemberton Avocado Festival will deliver local flavours and a full day of fun on Saturday, 1 November at the RSL Memorial Park & Playground. Known as the heart of Western Australia's avocado country, Pemberton will be abuzz with more than 40 market stalls, including avocado inspired food stalls and gourmet bites, live cooking demonstrations, live music and performances, meet the grower talks and marron races. Plus, a dedicated kids zone will delight younger visitors with face painting, games, farm animals and more. Later, the Avocado Festival Gala Night at Hidden River Estate will feature avocado-themed canapes by Chef Ardal, showcasing the fruit's elegance and versatility, and thoughtfully matched with Hidden River Estate wines.
