Pride of the Peaks Explore the locations for the latest film adaptation of Jane Austens classic Pride and Prejudice, due for release in September. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are both key backdrops in the new movie, but the rocky outcrops, rolling hills and varied wildlife of the Peak District are picture perfect all year round. Do some research and find out where stars Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen stayed and visited whilst filming with the help of www.derbyshirethepeakdistrict.co.uk and www.enjoyengland.com.
Grab a crab Discover exactly what happens at the British Open Crabbing Championships by taking a short break on the beautiful Suffolk Heritage Coast this August. The Championships take place in the seaside village of Walberswick on 14 August and all visitors need to take part are a pair of wellies, some bait on the end of a line and a bucket for the catch. The heaviest crab caught wins, but the fun is in taking part and enjoying the day. With cliffs, salt marshes, pine forests and beaches, this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has much to offer visitors. Find out more at www.visiteastofengland.com or www.enjoyengland.com.
Cache it if you can Experience geocaching: already big in the United States this is the latest craze to hit England. Visitors to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre can pick up a GPS unit (Global Positioning System) and set off on a high-tech trek in search of their first geocache a waterproof box containing items left by fellow geocachers. In addition to the GPS unit, the Discovery Centre will also supply detailed maps and clear instructions to help walkers search out Shropshires wartime secrets or discover the history of its hill forts. Literary inspiration Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived in Somerset for two years from 1797 and it was here that he wrote Kubla Khan. Walk the Coleridge Trail in Somerset, a brand new 36-mile waymarked trail starting in Nether Stowey, near the poets farmhouse and finishing on the coast at Porlock. The new trail offers walkers of all levels access to the countryside and coastline that inspired not just Coleridge but an array of poets, critics and essayists that he entertained at his farmhouse. Highlights of the walk include the Quantocks. Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the seldom-visited Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park.
