WHAT: The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) will hold its annual conference at the expanded Pennsylvania Convention Center with the focus of this year's conference being “Technology and Mathematics: Get Connected.” Many of the sessions at the conference will focus on how technology is an essential tool in mathematics classrooms.
The opening session will be given by Diane Ravitch from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 in the Terrace Ballroom. Ravitch is a research professor of Education at New York University and distinguished historian of American education. Ravitch served as Assistant Secretary of Education and Counselor to the Secretary of Education. She is the author of over 20 books and blogs, regularly for EdWeek.org and HuffingtonPost.com.
A featured presentation from Jim Rubillo of nearby DeSales University will take place from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27 in Room 114. The session will address the question: “Are We Using Technology Strategically?”
The conference's closing session will feature Edward Burger from Williams College and Baylor University. Burger has appeared on the Today Show and in 2010 Winter Olympics coverage for mathematics segments. The session will be held from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 in Terrace Ballrooms II and III.
