08 May 2026Tom Bonnafoux

Welcome to “Spotlight On", where we spotlight an inspiring PR professional from the TravMedia community, and this time we're proud to feature Nicole Tapster, Public Relations Manager at Viking. Nicole brings a genuine passion for travel communications to one of the industry's most respected operators that has been connecting curious travellers with the world's rivers, oceans, and cultural landmarks for nearly three decades, with a deep commitment to thoughtful, enriching exploration.

  1. How long have you been in your current role?

I've been PR Manager at Viking for five months now, and I already feel like part of the furniture! Before that, I spent five wonderful years at travel and tourism specialist PEPR Agency.

  1. How long have you been in the travel industry?

Seven years and counting! I started my first full‑time role at Gate 7, and once I was introduced to the travel industry, I never wanted to leave.

  1. In your past professional life, you were …

A university student working in retail, followed by four incredible months travelling across Europe after graduating, before stepping into PR. That experience really cemented my love of travel and the stories behind it.

  1. What is something you love about working with travel media?

The passion is infectious. Travel media have incredible stories, insights and enthusiasm, and I love working with people who care deeply about inspiring others to explore the world.

  1. What are your professional pet peeves?

Starting a brand new email chain instead of simply hitting 'reply' – it makes life more complicated than it needs to be!

  1. What has been your most memorable press trip?

Hosting a press trip for Virgin Australia to celebrate the launch of direct flights to Uluru while I was at PEPR Agency. Two nights, more than 60 famil guests, and truly magical moments. Uluru leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits.

  1. What is your favourite place to travel?

Bali will always have my heart. Between the beautiful culture, friendly locals, incredible food, yoga, gyms and relaxed pace of life, it's the ultimate place to truly switch off and reset.
